Keeping Up With ProZone – April 2022

Carol’s Corner   The end of daylight-saving signals the end of an almost perfect summer, especially where we are. I appreciate that some people have not been so lucky and have had to cope with endless rain and floods, especially up north. I have just picked the last of the bounty from our garden (photo below) – a large carrot, a small pumpkin and the last of the broad beans. I’ve still got spinach, peas, and another pumpkin, but mostly I’ve got monarch butterfly chrysalises all over the place which is fun. If you want some more information about the

Keeping Up With ProZone – December 2021

Carol’s Corner   Here we are with the end of the year nearly on us. What a turbulent year it has been again with so much uncertainty, fear, and ups and downs with COVID and politics changing every day. It’s hard to keep up and many people have struggled to cope. The most important thing you can do is keep yourself well. Eat in the Zone, exercise every day (at least a walk), and take time out for yourself whether you meditate, spend time with family and friends, read, dance, paint, write, or sing. I belong to the Wellington Community

Keeping Up With ProZone – November 2021

Carol’s Corner   I hope you are all coping with the prolonged lock down, the grim daily numbers, and the uncertainty about what is ahead. We are lucky in Wellington to have relative freedom and I am heartened to see so many people in the street wearing their masks, scanning in at stores, and generally keeping to the rules. We are still all in this together and we have summer around the corner. Fortunately, with so much isolation and social distancing we are not getting the usual spike in flu and colds that we normally see at this time of

Keeping Up With ProZone – September 2021

Carol’s Corner   It’s been a pretty stressful last few weeks with the arrival of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in New Zealand and subsequently being placed back under alert levels 3 and 4. This lockdown seems to have been more difficult for many people, possibly because we’ve had a very large outbreak affecting mainly younger people. Last year we did our lockdown at our home at Himatangi Beach. Unfortunately, with the sudden and short notice of this lockdown we got stuck in our apartment in Wellington. Fortunately, we are in the middle of town so we have the waterfront

Keeping Up With ProZone – Christmas 2019

From all of us here at ProZone, we’d like to wish you, your family, and your friends, a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! This year has been incredibly busy, both professionally and personally, and I am sorry to have not kept in touch more regularly. Hopefully, I can manage to do so more in the New Year. Christmas is a time where nutrition plans, diets, whatever you like to call them, tend to go out the window, because it’s just “easier” to eat whatever is on your plate, and not upset the hosts by refusing! But, it is important

Keeping Up With ProZone – November 2018

Carol’s Corner  Firstly, my apologies for being out of touch for so long.  My sister, Marion, died from an aggressive brain tumour after only 4 months.  I spent a considerable amount of that time with her in Australia where she had lived for 40 years.  She was my only sibling and we had worked together at Wellington hospital in the 1970’s, so it has been a very difficult time.  I was with her at the end which was relatively quick and peaceful, and she never suffered any pain.   Happy Anniversary to ProZone It is 20 years this month that

Keeping Up With ProZone – August 2018

Carol’s Corner  Seeing this is ProZone’s 20 year anniversary, we are putting in some of our articles from past newsletters.   As Rachel Hunter said in the infamous advertisement for hair products, “it won’t happen overnight, but it will happen”,  the same can be said for weight loss.  A lot of people are hung up on weight loss and weigh themselves religiously every morning, getting upset if they put on a few hundred grams and probably rewarding themselves by eating a bit more, as if they had lost a few hundred grams. We had a client who went from a size

New Heart Foundation Recommendations

The NZ Heart Foundation’s new revised healthy food choice advice has been released and published in the 7th November edition of the The Dominion Post. They have distanced themselves from their old failed model by scrapping the well known Pyramid completely and have replaced it with a stylized heart. The new advice recommends consuming food groups in what appears to be approximately the following proportions: 40% vegetables and fruit – eat most 25% breads, cereals, grains, starchy vegetables – eat some 15% fish, meat, chicken, legumes, eggs 12% milk, yoghurt, cheese 5% oils, nuts – use some 3% cut back on
